Roofing and Restoration

Here in Mississippi,  we are used to seeing a tornado's, hail, or even a hard gusts of wind from a storm.  However, we are not used to seeing the damages caused by these weathering effects underneath the roofing material.  Most of us have insurance on our homes that cover just this.  The only issue is, we will not know the amount of damage until we get on the roof to perform a roof inspection. We can let you know if you have damage in order to open a claim.  If damages go unchecked, you could develop rot to the wood under the roofing.  If this occurs, the insurance will not cover the rot because it is a pre-existing issue.  Lets take a look at a few of the types of damages you could experience.

HAIL DAMAGE:

Most hail damage is only covered if it occurred in the last 365 days from the date the insurance claim was made.   Also, in most cases, if the fiberglass is clearly showing in the impact, then most insurance adjusters will say that the damage is too old to be considered. This is why its so important to take these steps when you notice hail:

  1. Take pictures of the hail on the ground or video it as it is falling.

  2. Call us to come give you a FREE roof inspection.

  3. Provide us with the pictures and/or video of the hail if you have it.

  4. If we see enough damage, call your insurance company immediately and open a claim for hail damage.

  5. Then, we take care of the rest! In most cases, we will meet with the adjuster and walk the roof with them.  The only thing you will be responsible for is the deductible on your policy and anything that the insurance is not responsible for (i.e. rotted plywood or framing.)

If you are unsure about if you had hail in your area, but heard that houses in your neighborhood had hail damage; then the odds are you do as well.  Just give us a call and we will get you inspected!

WIND DAMAGE:

Wind damage is very common in tornadoes, weather fronts moving in, or hurricanes. Your common inexpensive "3-tab" asphalt shingle is only rated for 60 MPH winds.  Here are a few signs that you may have had wind damage to your roof:

  1. Shingles sticking up on your roof.

  2. Shingles laying out of place (This will be noticeable)\

  3. A loose shingle randomly laying on your roof or on the ground (do not remove without taking pictures)

  4. A crease in your shingle where the shingle has been folded back but is now laying back in the correct location.

DEBRIS DAMAGE:

Storms have a habit of breaking limbs off or just pushing the whole tree over.  The odds are the tree would have caused shingle damage, if not structural damage.  Even if you do not see a leak on the inside, still give us call to do a roof inspection.

DOCUMENT EVERYTHING:

Document everything that happens in the storm.  Pictures are a must but it never hurts doing a video if you are able to.  There is a reason you pay for insurance on your home and these issues are just a couple. Insurance will want to see everything as it is discovered.

If you have a new leak that you notice on the inside of your home, call us immediately so we can Tarp your roof at no cost to you.  We will get with your insurance to cover that cost.  It maybe small enough that we can do just a simple repair or a temporary patch until the roof is repaired or replaced.

If you suspect any of this, give us a call immediately.
